I thought it was American slang derived from Yiddish. I didn't know it was also used in the UK. In the US we would tend to say "So what kind of story are we talking here?"

It's on every third or so break on the BBC, to coax school children to participate on 'breaking' news, or not.

The BBC is nearly an American broadcasting Corporation. Their propaganda parrotsare even starting to say numbers like One Hundred Thirty instead of One Hundred AND thirty :maduk:
