Coronation Street almost killed fan

A Coronation Street fan has revealed that he couldn't watch the soap for ten years after breaking his neck during a commercial break.

Richard Collier rushed upstairs to the toilet so that he wouldn't miss the show when he slipped and fractured his neck in three places.

The 53-year-old from Chorlton then avoided the show for a decade fearing it would bring back memories of his near-fatal accident.

Collier watched the soap for the first time since his neck injury this week but admitted that the show had changed a lot it ten years.

He told the South Manchester Reporter: "It used to be my favourite soap. I had a few pangs of panic when the music came on. It was a bit strange though because I didn’t recognise most of the people on there - Vera's gone, Curly’s gone - I didn't really know what was going on."

At the time of Collier's fall, Corrie's main storyline involved the death of Gary and Judy Mallet's adopted child from meningitis.

I noticed there was a bit of a debate on DS over who was to blame for his accident. The fan for wanting to see the second half, ITV for having adverts or the house for having stairs. :chin:

"What brings you round here?"
"The biscuits."

Max Branning and Sean Slater, winding each other up!

I avoid Coronation Street like the plague anyway, but I would say he hasn't missed much recently.
