I still have one in the garage, but the rules have changed dramatically In getting these things onto the road since I bought her.

I'm currently shoehorning a Citroen bx19 16v front end into the rear to create something mid-engined, but then I was doing similar tinkering almost a decade ago.

When I get a bit more spare time of course it will take no more than a month to complete........

A sensible vehicle for the corporate car pool :D

You GIT! :D

I understand that a more modern powertrain for these cars is to mid mount a Subaru boxer engine (such as an Impreza) which can also use the Subaru transaxle with the rear drive disconnected. Light, powerful, meets all modern emissions regulations and sounds great! (Plus an abundance od spares and tuning options)

Understood, and the flat four would be a natural choice even if the beetle a fine was the only part substituted but I have an abundance of Citroen parts lying around. Transplanting the whole assembly means the finished engine bay includes the LM hydraulics for brakes and suspension, giving me the option of front/rear independent height adjustment ( very useful for speed humps and a radical look when parked up) and a linked power source for the canopy mechanism.

The Citroen four (Xu9 or the Mi16) can also be played about top end wise for some really silly figures, see Puma engineering parts and the link below for numbers.

I saw the programme late last night. MAy did make a good review of the latest Honda NSX and the Disco MGB and then Merc auction was amusing, the rest was so-so.

Clarkson wasn't far off a particular salute at the beginning of the show.

Having just seen the last two episodes of the first series, it is obvious the trio need something additional next time.

I did not miss The American in Episode 13, to be honest he has probably been the weakest link throughout. Not his fault but the comments each time on the cars are just 'samey'

There is little or, in the case of the last two, zero audience participation except the laughing.

No celebrities - apart of course from the imaginary deaths, which have run the course.

The skill Clarkson, Hammond and May can work on the four wheeled industry has some merit, far better than the reincarnation on the BBC and I dread turining in having seen the promo in the past few days. Perhaps the automobile cartel don't recognise Amazon as a force quite yet, which will to be their detriment when everything people might need delivered is by balloon, drone or ethernet cable.

I have just watched the first episode of season 2 and while i did enjoy it, something is missing.

I think the biggest problem is the lack of genuine banter. That original horseplay has been replaced with cringeworthy scripted banter which just dosent have the same impact.

All the other stuff like the celebrity bit just needs time to mature just like it did on the original 'new' Top Gear.

I think to make this work better, they need to move away slightly from the format that made TG what it was and while keeping the chemistry and 'fun' stuff, revert slightly more back in time to when they actually did some kind of actual motoring journalism. It dosent mean that they have to start reviewing Honda Civics for boot space and practicality (aka original 'old' Top Gear) but just ditch the obvious argueing over supercars one week and argueing over a £500 pile of shit the next week to argueing who can make the best (or stupidly worst) Panzer tank from a Fiat Uno.
Just get some nice cars, lets see them and hear about them, have a laugh and throw the occasional bit of insulting foreigners in.

Less silly squabbling and more of this.......

I just checked and it seems I've only watched the first episode of the second season.

Most of the stuff on Amazon Prime is bollocks. Only LA cop show Bosch stands out. Would cancel it if I didn't need parcels sent to my local Post Office.
