As one or two of you may know, I 'upgraded' my S2 to ICS a few weeks ago.

I haven't really noticed any benefits, the only one I can think of is that if it is not used very much I only need to charge it up every other day now. But when using it a bit it seems to drain the battery faster. Swings/roundabouts.

What it does badly now is connect to my home (and other) wifi - it keeps telling me it has (connected to whizzybang wifi !) but when you try to connect it randomly says 'no connection'.

I can always connect via mobile data but with my tiny allowance I don't usually bother.

It may not affect everyone of course - and they may (hopefully) issue a patch. I'll send them a moaning email I think. :)

Thanks diabs. I didn't update in the end. Think I will just stay as is.

I use my phone quite a lot, so sounds like the battery problem would not be good for me. I also use wifi a lot so that definitely would be a pain in the arse.

I'm hoping to get into the world of mobile phones in afew weeks. Looking at getting a Nokia 808 for the camera capability. Dunno if that'll use the same OS ?

Nokia 808 PureView Hands-On: A Superb Camera (With a Phone Attached)

It is the Symbian O/S - no idea about that. Bloody hell, 41 megapixel camera in a phone. :D

I'm not 100% sure, but I only want it to take pics, so I'm not sure the OS is something I'd be bothered about really.

Ah right. You want to make sure it still works. If you don't make a call/text on a pay as you go phones for 6 months they usually stop the sim working.

They might sell off the old type cheap when the new Windows version appears. :):

Your guess is as good as mine, though with Nokia market share slipping further every month I'd expect them to rush out the new one using the same hardware.

"While Symbian doesn’t interest us much, we will admit to being fascinated by that camera sensor, which is what this hands-on write-up will mostly focus on. (Pardon the pun.) With Nokia already stating they’ll release a Windows Phone 7 version at a later date, consider this a taste of something far greater, to come."

Only time will tell though.

I'm itching to get one though. You can always wait for the next better model of anything. I'm not sure whether to buy one outright or get one on a contract

1) Stay away from Symbian.

2) Get one on contract so you can upgrade in 18 to 24 months

Why?

I did think about the upgrade issue. But then the price of an 18 or 24 month contract could be more than buying the phone, and thus it would be cheaper to just buy a new phone . depends upon what's included in the contract I guess

I'll have to wait and see what's on offer really. :)
