BBC talking about a Mars Trip

$10 BILLION? Nothing compared to mass murder industry

UK team designs human mission to Mars

Scientists at Imperial College London have designed a concept mission to land astronauts on Mars.

The plan envisages a three-person crew journeying to Mars aboard a small two-part craft.

The craft would rotate to generate artificial gravity and use a heat shield to protect itself against solar flares.

The crew would then return to Martian orbit in a pre-sent craft fuelled using ice from beneath the planet's surface.

The concept, developed in conjunction with the BBC, is intended to spark further debate about the technical obstacles and risks that would have to be overcome in order to put humans on Mars. Article continues @ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22952441

Even if it was a one-way trip and they were asking for volunteers, I'd stick my hand up high in the air. :-)

There are many things that I could do today. I could in fact help any one of you, but I won't. :)

One way trip? You'd have to share a small cabin with Tony Blair, Obama, Bush, Cameron, Netenyahu, etc for 9 months?

The capsule should have a fitted kitchen. None of this food in plastic bag nonsense :) - You could use the radiation to microwave stuff as well :

I was reading about this earlier and they reckon the radiation on Mars is about 6x what we could cope with, our eyes would melt, body cancers, etc, etc. In short, we ain't gonna go there. Wish I could find the article

Those who doubt the original Moon Landings cite the radiation as a big reason.

Even NASA wrote a paper in the Mid 2000s claiming proper radiation protection was required to go to the Moon and Mars....

A Force Field for Astronauts?

Space beyond low-Earth orbit is awash with intense radiation from the Sun and from deep galactic sources such as supernovas. Astronauts en route to the Moon and Mars are going to be exposed to this radiation, increasing their risk of getting cancer and other maladies. Finding a good shield is important.

if space beyond low earth orbit is, to quote NASA, awash with intense radiation how were the original 1960s astronauts shielded? And if they did it then, why can't they do it easily now?

Supposedly Mars looks very different to how Nasa show us. They allegedly give the images more red to make it very red. Maybe monsters too.

Can't blame them. No one wants Americans invading their land do they?

well they didn't have that technology in the 1960s and the radiation isn't the just Van Allen belts. No wonder Buzz Aldrin is a bit of a nutcase
