Most people have never even seen the Shuttle, only on TV, so there won't be much to miss AFAIC. What has all the money spent on it achieved over the years..billions of dollars that could have been better spent on the slum areas of Alabama and other deep South ghettos where people are still living in tin shacks and having their homes washed away each time the hurricanes arrive. Bah to the Shuttle! Let's worry more about conditions on Earth before spending these obscene sums of money on space adventures.

The USA spends $700 billion a year on killing people. The USA spends under $6 billion a year on the shuttle. If you're going to complain about money being directed to the wrong use then I think it's obvious where the biggest complaint should go.

Wow, does that mean the US has given up on space exploration?

Not at all, Project Orion (not the most original name) is most likely to be the next into space, around 2017.

It's nice to know that the Americans haven't given up on space travel. But now that Project Orion is looking to go forward, how's it going to reach space without the shuttles. I hope they're not using those dreadful old rockets from the 1960's.

Thunderbirds were great, but those old space phalluses just don't have the same cheeky look the shuttles do. (My god, I'm sad for saying that.)
