Phonetic Word Teaching

I Was with my friends at the weekend and both children had spelling test coming up , one of them today and the other child next Thursday........It's really weird because I know we did not have any phonetic stuffy. :chin: I cant remember actually but definatly not phonetic.

Isn't that the Dr Seuss/Schultz method ?

Cat in the Hat etc.

Never did it myself either.

I've got to be honest I really dont know? Strange.........my little babe was *as he was writing down his words* he was going....aaaeeemm, and soo oin....I was helpiing him with his test but Im supposed to know *this phonetic* thingy*

Really weird actually.

I was trying to do the *Aahhhh rrrrrr * you know all that and I've never,ever done that........obviously teaching is so different from when I was a kiddie........but got to be honest it good for me and the child!

i suppose it's a better way of learning how letters are pronounced so long as the letter "z" isn't pronounced "zee" i really dislike that :nono:

Its letter sounds instead of letter names - A = aah, B = buh etc. The theory is that makes it easier to learn to read, because you make the letter sounds as you read - cuh, aah, tuh = cat.

I found it strange to do - never had it when I was at school, but its how they do it now.

it sounds more confusing than helpful .... :D C can be a cuh , bit it can also be cee ....glad it was not around when my lad was learning TBH :D

I spent a while with the 'n' letter this morning. Told the wife to give it ten minutes before going in .....
