Sad news. As a lover of heavy or melodic rock, I found Motörhead too loud for my liking (I saw them live about 15 years ago... Serious noise). You have to respect the man though. He will be missed by many.

Lemmy... A legendary music icon and a legendary non giver of fucks.

As I recall mentioning in another thread a while ago, I went to see Motorhead live in the 1980s in Germany in a sports stadium. The sound Guy from our band went on to be a monitor engineer for Brit Row ( PA Company ) and was touring with them. He got us back stage passes to the gig. Motorhead were headline and Girlschool and a few other metal bands were on. Loudest fif I've ever witnessed in my life.

When Motorhead come on stage. Lemmy said the crowd ( mostly pissed up German teenagers ) in a fairly soft voice "We're going to get the sound just right to fuck you all up".

And then the noise started. So loud we couldn't' tell which song they were playing.

He was.

Motorhead in Germany in 2004. Nearly 20 years after I saw them there, but the pure energy is still going.

It is believed that his nickname 'Lemmy' came from his childhood in Stoke on Trent where he was always asking to borrow money. Pronounced in a Stoke accent "Lemmie (lend me) a quid!"

I saw Hawkwind a couple of times, the first time was at a small gig in Preston and they asked if anyone could put them up for the night. Though I don't know if Lemmy had joined them that early.

Was never a big fan of Motorhead though.

RIP.
