I had the pleasure of meeting Eric Morecambe (and Mrs Morecambe scott  ) many years ago on a flight to Miami. He was side-achingly funny. I don't know why they bothered with Eddie Braben really, because he was just a natural comedian. I was living in NE Lancashire at the time and we were talking about the different clubs in the area. I mentioned one I knew in Accrington, which is a town with a local reputation for being somewhat damp, and he said "Ah, yes, Accrington. Worked there for six weeks - never saw the streets dry!"

It was the 1970's... Everybody shared a bed.

In our house, there was 27 of us to a bed...

Well, i say 'Bed'... It was just a plank of wood with a sheet of tarpaulin over but it was a bed to us.

Luxury! I would have killed for that! A plank of wood - such comfort.
After me dad had given us all a good hiding, we'd be sent off to sort out a few sheets of newspaper to put on the kitchen floor. I had five sisters -bedwetters all of them. When they asked where I wanted to sleep, I used to say "The shallow end." :)

You were lucky to have a Kitchen floor...

We just had a big hole where our floor should have been. All 137 of us had to huddle together in the corner for fear of falling.

Floor?... Floor?... Huh...

Them wer 't' days.

We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woke up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us!
