CFI- Annual Business Lunch 2008 |

Conservative Friends of Israel Annual Business Lunch 2008
This year the Conservative Friends of Israel Annual Business Lunch took place at the Dorchester Hotel. The event was attended by over 400 Business people and over 100 Conservative MPs, Lords and Parliamentary Candidates.
Key note speakers at this year’s lunch were the Rt Hon William Hague MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary and George Osborne MP, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. The two MPs took part in a panel discussion with Times lead writer Danny Finklestein.
The Rt Hon William Hague MP On Iran:
"The Ambassador was just talking about Iran. The Government say they're very worried about Iran but I think – and certainly Israeli Government Ministers have agreed with this assessment – the Conservative Party has been at the forefront in the whole of Europe in stating the case about the worries of Iran and about the need for Europe to carry a bigger stick in relation to Iran and follow the United States in financial sanctions before the Americans can offer some more carrots. And so we would have liked to have seen a more energetic approach by the current Government and we are critical of them. Gordon Brown announces sanctions on Iranian oil and gas last November, announces it again last week and nothing has taken place – absolutely nothing."

Since being chosen as Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain’s running mate last month, Sarah Palin, the current Alaskan Governor, has galvanized the race for the White House.
So here are ten reasons why you should be worried about Palin, who could be the most dangerous potential Vice-President in America’s history. The more you examine Palin’s policies, persona, political and economic record, the more reason we all have real to be deeply worried. Palin makes both President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney look moderate.
Reason number one. Her lack of domestic experience. Palin’s political rise has been nothing short of meteoric, but all her political experience is based in Alaska, hundreds of miles from Washington. Her political experience .... |

Rendition, disappearance and torture info sought |
Amnesty International today called on the government of the UK to give the lawyers for Binyam Mohamed, a former UK resident imprisoned at Guantánamo Bay, information which it holds and which might help him to show that he has been a victim of torture and other ill-treatment in the US-led programme of renditions and secret detention.
"Providing this information would be a first step towards accountability for the UK's involvement in the US programme of rendition and secret detention, and in the torture and other ill-treatment of .... |
